How Continuation and Frame-Seeding Works (and Why Settings Lock Across a Chain)
What "continuation" actually means technically
When you extend a video chain, SoulrisAI isn't generating a new, independent clip that happens to come after the last one — it's generating a fresh segment seeded from the final frame of the previous segment. That final frame is used as the new segment's starting image, the same idea as starting a video from an image, just applied automatically from one segment to the next rather than you supplying a starting image yourself.
This is why continuations tend to flow naturally from the prior segment rather than jump-cutting to something unrelated — the model is literally picking up visually from where the last frame left off, with your new prompt describing what happens next from there.
Why resolution and aspect ratio can't change mid-chain
When a finished chain is combined into one video, the clips are joined as they are, without being reprocessed. That only produces a clean file when every segment has the same resolution and aspect ratio. If segment three didn't match segment one, the combined video could end up broken, and you'd only find out when you tried to play it.
To prevent that, SoulrisAI checks a continuation's requested resolution and aspect ratio against its parent segment's actual settings before anything is generated or charged — a mismatch is rejected up front, as a clear error, rather than allowed through and discovered later.
Why quality tier locks too
The same principle extends to quality tier (Budget/Standard/Premium) — a chain is expected to stay on one tier from its first segment to its last. This keeps a chain's visual quality consistent throughout, rather than having an obvious quality jump partway through a sequence that's meant to read as one continuous clip.
What this means practically when you're planning a chain
Decide your resolution, aspect ratio, and quality tier before you generate the first segment of a chain you intend to extend — changing your mind partway through means starting a new chain, not adjusting the existing one. If you're not sure yet, it's reasonable to generate a short first segment on a lower tier to validate your prompt and scene, then decide your real settings before committing to the chain you'll actually extend and stitch.
What happens if a continuation request doesn't match
If you submit a continuation whose resolution or aspect ratio doesn't match its intended parent, SoulrisAI rejects the request before any wallet reservation is made — you're not charged for a mismatched request that was never going to succeed. Adjust your request to match the parent segment's actual settings and try again.
