How to Use Voice Chat on SoulrisAI — Talk to the AI and Hear It Reply
What voice chat lets you do
Voice chat turns SoulrisAI into a conversation you can have out loud. You speak your message, SoulrisAI turns it into text, the AI answers, and the answer is read back to you in a natural voice. Nothing about the conversation itself changes: everything you say and everything the AI says still lands in your chat as normal text, so you can scroll back through it later like any other chat.
It's useful when your hands are busy, when you'd rather talk than type on a phone, or when you simply want to think out loud with an assistant.
Before you start
Two things need to be in place:
- A funded wallet. Voice chat isn't part of the free tier, because every spoken message and every spoken reply costs real money to process. If you haven't deposited yet, see how to fund your wallet and what the free tier covers.
- Microphone permission. The first time you start voice chat, your browser or phone will ask to use your microphone. Choose Allow. If you blocked it by mistake, the troubleshooting guide shows how to turn it back on.
How to start a voice conversation
- Open the chat you want to talk in (or start a new one).
- Open voice mode from the chat screen.
- Tap the microphone button and speak your message.
- Stop when you're done: tap again to send, or just pause and SoulrisAI will notice you've finished.
- Wait a moment while your words are turned into text and the AI writes its reply. You'll see your message appear in the chat as text.
- Listen to the reply. It plays automatically, and you can stop it at any time.
Tap-to-talk vs. hands-free
Voice mode has two ways of listening:
- Tap to talk is the default. Nothing listens unless you tapped the microphone, so SoulrisAI never records when you didn't mean it to.
- Hands-free is something you switch on yourself. After each spoken reply finishes, the microphone opens again on its own so you can keep the conversation flowing without touching the screen. It never listens while the AI is thinking or speaking, and it switches itself back to tap-to-talk if it hears nothing twice in a row, if something goes wrong, or if you leave the screen.
Hands-free always starts switched off each time you open voice mode.
Choosing a voice
SoulrisAI offers a small set of voices with friendly names. Pick the one you like in voice mode and it will be remembered for next time. You can change it whenever you want, and the change applies from your next spoken reply.
How spoken replies differ from typed ones
When you're talking, long walls of text make no sense, so voice replies are written to sound natural out loud: shorter and more conversational. Things that only make sense on screen, such as formatting symbols, code blocks, tables and web links, aren't read aloud. The complete written answer is always in the chat, so you never lose anything the AI said.
You can also replay a spoken reply later: spoken messages in your chat have a listen option, so you can hear them again without asking the AI to repeat itself.
Which AI answers you
Voice chat uses the same model choices as typing. Whatever tier or model you've chosen for that conversation is the one that answers, and if you're on Auto, SoulrisAI picks for you as usual. If you're not sure how that works, read understanding chat tiers and how Auto routing works.
What it costs
Voice has two small costs: turning your speech into text, and reading the AI's answer aloud. Both come out of your wallet and are shown to you. The full breakdown is in voice chat: cost, limits and troubleshooting.
Try it yourself
Open SoulrisAI, fund your wallet with a small amount, and ask the AI something out loud. A short question is the best first test: you'll quickly get a feel for how the pauses, the voice and the cost work. If you're still deciding on a first deposit, pay-per-use vs. subscription explains why small top-ups are a normal way to use SoulrisAI.
