How to Manually Choose a Specific AI Model Instead of Auto

Auto isn't your only option

SoulrisAI's default behavior is Auto routing — it picks a suitable model for each message automatically. Most users never need to touch this. But if you want a specific model to handle your conversation regardless of what Auto would have chosen, you can select one manually instead.

How to switch to a specific model

Open the model selector in the chat interface (usually near where you type your message) and choose a model directly instead of leaving it on Auto. Once selected, that model answers your messages in that conversation instead of whatever Auto would have routed to.

Why you might want to do this

A few genuine reasons to go manual:

What it costs

Manually picking a model bypasses Auto's cost-aware judgment. If you pick a stronger, more expensive model and then ask it something simple, you'll pay that model's rate regardless of whether the question needed that much capability. There's nothing wrong with doing this deliberately — but it's worth knowing that Auto routing exists specifically to avoid this kind of overspend, so manual selection generally costs more over a full conversation than letting Auto handle it.

Switching mid-conversation

You're not locked into a choice for the life of a conversation. You can switch from Auto to a specific model, or between models, partway through — the conversation's earlier context carries over regardless of which model answers the next message.

Going back to Auto

If you've switched to manual selection and want SoulrisAI to go back to picking for you, select Auto again from the same model selector. There's no penalty or friction to switching back and forth as often as you like.

Which should you actually use?

For day-to-day chat, Auto is the right default — it's what most of SoulrisAI's routing logic is built around, and it's tuned to balance quality against cost on your behalf. Reach for manual selection when you have a specific, deliberate reason to override that — not as your default way of chatting.
