Reviewing and Managing Shots in a Movie
Your Movie's timeline
Your Movie shows its shots in order, each with its prompt, duration and status. Reviewing as you go is the best way to avoid wasting budget.
Reviewing a shot
Once a shot is Completed, play it back. Ask yourself:
- Does the action match your prompt?
- Is the ending frame good enough to continue from? A continue shot starts there, so flaws carry forward.
- Do you want to keep it, or redo it?
While a shot is still generating, you'll see its progress. See understanding generation status for what each state means.
Removing a shot
You can undo the last shot in your Movie. A few rules apply:
- Only the last shot can be removed. You can't pull one out of the middle.
- Not while it's generating. Wait for it to finish or fail first.
- Removed shots leave the timeline. They're hidden from your Movie and from the finished video.
To redo a middle shot you'd need to remove the later ones first, or accept the shot as it is and build around it. There's currently no way to reorder shots.
What removing does to your budget
This matters:
- If the shot had completed, you've already paid for it, so removing it does not return its cost to your budget cap.
- If the shot failed, it was refunded, and your budget is available again. You don't need to remove a failed shot to get that back.
Think carefully before removing a shot you've paid for. If you only need a different version, it may be cheaper to add a new shot than to undo and redo several.
Failed shots
Shots that fail generating usually disappear from the timeline. For a while afterwards, your Movie still shows recent failures, so you can see that something went wrong if you come back later. See what to do if a video generation stalls or fails.
Keeping tidy
- Archive Movies you're finished with. This frees up a slot, since your account can only have a limited number of active Movies. A Movie can't be archived while a shot is generating.
- Remove reference photos you no longer want. See using a real person's photo as a reference.
- Name Movies clearly when you create them so they're easy to find.
A good review routine
- Add a shot.
- Wait for it to complete.
- Play it back.
- Keep it, or undo it if it's the last one and unusable.
- Check your remaining budget before the next shot.
